ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE DAY HELD AT STATE CAPITOL
The Pennsylvania Environmental Network (PEN) this week sponsored a rally at the State Capitol to draw attention to environmental problems facing various parts of the state. More than 25 grass-roots environmental groups participated in environmental justice day to protest such issues as biosolids, low-level radioactive waste, long-wall mining and incineration at the Drake Superfund site near Lock Haven.
Charles Chivis, chairman of the Greater Harrisburg Area Branch of the NAACP spoke out against a proposal by Bio-Oxidation Inc. to build a facility in Harrisburg to process medical waste at a site that is across the street from a public housing project. (Source: The Patriot News 4/29/98)
